Japanese bilingual rental marketplace VacationStay already offers an inventory of more than 12,000 rental properties just one year after its launch. That’s far more listings than rivals InstaBase.jp and OyoLife.co.jp.

VacationStay was officially launched in June last year as a joint venture between Rakuten Inc. (51 percent) and Lifull Co. Ltd. (49 percent). Domestic and overseas users have been increasing since then with local tourists having the dominant 60 percent occupancy rate of housing facilities.

The site is seeing more than 10 percent growth in listings each month, according to a news statement.

InstaBase.jp lists 6,176 rental spaces from across the country. The mobile-first site went live in 2014. OyoLife’s listings now top 1,700. It was launched in April this year as a joint venture between Yahoo Japan and Indian hotel startup Oyo.
