Gig marketplace Coconala.com has raised Y1.2 billion ($11.1 million U.S.) in funding through third-party allotment of shares by a global asset management company Fidelity International.

Coconala.com will use the funds to support the broader user base, become a marketplace for skills in a wide range of categories, achieve personnel empowerment, and accelerate business development.

Coconala.com is owned and managed by Tokyo-based Coconala Inc. The marketplace has more than one million users and has sold more than three million skills in c-to-c and b-to-c trading. Currently, it deals in 200 categories and lists 250,000 jobs.

Founded in Jan. 2012, the company also runs a marketplace for handmade products at Handmade.Coconala.com and a legal search engine at Legal.Coconala.com.

Other on-demand job sites in Japan are Cyta.jp of Crowd Works and MeetsMore.com.
