Tokyo-based Internet service Jiraffe Inc. has appointed Masato Shibata (柴田雅人) as a new director. He’s responsible for managing the company’s two main marketplaces.

Shibata (LinkedIn profile) previously worked at leading Internet company Gree Inc. Now, he’ll head used smartphones marketplace Smama.jp and playing cards trading app Magi.

Jiraffe was launched in October 2014. It secured a Series B round worth 400 million yen ($3.5 million U.S.) from different investors, including Mercari Fund, in November 2017. The company also operates a used-mobile recommerce service at Smama.jp/Dash, a price comparison site at Hikakaku.com, and a repair assistant service called Saiyasu-syuuri.com.

Jiraffe draws competition from recommerce app Cash.jp and marketplaces Yahoo AuctionsJmty.jp, and Rakuma.
