Leading Southeast Asian marketplace Carousell has appointed advertising tech veteran JJ Eastwood as its new managing director for advertising.

Eastwood (LinkedIn profile) has experience across multiple e-commerce, fintech and content platforms globally. He will be responsible for building commercial relationships across general sectors, along with the recently launched high-value verticals: cars and property. Eastwood reports directly to the newly-hired chief commercial officer Lewis Ng.

Hailing from Rakuten Ventures, Eastwood served as MD and drove the expansion of the companies programmatic, affiliate and search business across the Asia Pacific. Rakuten is also an avid investor across the global tech space and participated in Carousell’s Series C round.

Eastwood launched a private programmatic marketplace for EBay in 2012. He also established the Asia Pacific business for Sizmek, (formerly Rocket Fuel) and headed HuffPost Australia as CEO. 

His appointment comes amid recent news that Carousell raised $56 million from Naspers, the parent company of classified company OLX.
