Berlin-based Auto1 Group, one of Europe’s leading used-car platforms, has teamed up with German payments company Wirecard following a strategic partnership with Japanese conglomerate SoftBank.

The agreement was fostered through SoftBank’s existing partnership with both Auto1 Group and Wirecard. The companies will jointly develop their digital financial services, which will allow consumers to use Boon — Wirecard’s smartphone payments and banking app. Professional partners will benefit from the partnership via Auto1 Fintech — the group’s digital loan unit.

“We are confident that, with Wirecard, we can continue driving our global business forward at a fast pace by offering our various customer groups individualized digital financial solutions,” Auto1 Group co-founder Hakan Koç said.

Founded in 2012, Auto1 is one of Europe’s highest-valued private start-ups following last year’s €460 million ($512 million U.S.) record investment by SoftBank. The digital auto platform has since joined the prestigious unicorn club and reported 2018 revenues of €2.9 billion ($3.3 billion U.S.).

Auto1 is best known for its brands AUTO1.com, Wirkaufendeinauto.de (We buy your car) and Autohero. Last year, the company sold more than 540,000 vehicles. As an online marketplace for used cars, Auto1 offers its 55,000 professional partners the opportunity to access a portfolio of more than 30,000 vehicles.
