The U.K.’s second biggest real estate vertical Zoopla says agent subscription numbers are falling and it expects to see more branch closures.

Zoopla CEO Charlie Bryant told Property Industry Eye, “We are seeing a decline in the order of a single figure percentage,” in online agent listings.

Bryant said Zoopla listings show that rental supply is down and landlords are concerned about possible changes to tax rules and Stamp Duty and this means “they are no longer buying – which “is bad news for the sales sector because it is taking a big chunk of buyer demand out of the market”.

He said branch closures were a mixture of smaller unprofitable ones and larger agents shutting offices as part of policy.

Zoopla, owned by ZPG Group, has also made two more new senior appointments, adding to additions earlier this year.

Tom Parker (LinkedIn profile) becomes head of communications, joining from Amazon. He will be in charge of external public relations and has previously worked for Sainsbury and Eurostar.

Melissa Scarlett (LinkedIn profile) joins from specialist property company Edelman as PR manager for Zoopla’s B2B and corporate activities.
