Richard Cox Jr., a 16-year Cox Automotive veteran, has been promoted to senior vice president and chief information officer of parent company Cox Enterprises

In this role, he will oversee corporate IT and business leaders in their work with data analytics and business intelligence, development and support, infrastructure, security and technical services. 

Richard Cox Jr. joined subsidiary company Cox Automotive in 2013 where he held several leadership posts, including vice president of client performance and vice president of business operations and customer care. 

Before joining Cox Automotive, he was CEO and president of Jones International University and also served as vice president of customer experience at Orbitz Worldwide

Cox grew up in the company’s home base of Atlanta, and said, “I always aspired to work for Cox Enterprises.” 

He is deeply involved in Atlanta civil society, having served on the board of directors of Westside Future Fund and the Atlanta chapter of Year Up. In 2018, newly elected Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms asked Cox Enterprises to allow Richard Cox Jr. to serve as the city’s COO as an executive on-loan. For 15 months, he provided oversight for the city’s departments and agencies, including information technology, police, fire, aviation, corrections, public works, planning, procurement and sustainability.
