New Zealand vertical OneRoof.co.nz launched a New Homes section this week to help Kiwis find “new apartments, terrace housing, houses, and land packages.” The company also scooped two local awards: the Deloitte Digital Corporate Entrepreneur Award for Best Venture across Australia and New Zealand and the IAB New Zealand Digital Advertising Awards prize for Digital Startup of the Year.

New developments are increasingly popular in New Zealand thanks to the government-led KiwiBuild initiative that launched last year. The initiative hopes to kickstart construction in New Zealand by building 100,000 new homes over the next 10 years. “We know people are actively seeking new homes,” OneRoof editor Owen Vaughan told the NZ Herald. “Not only do new-builds offer Kiwis the chance to live in a home that best suits their needs from day one, but new-builds can also help save money, with developers and new home builders embracing healthy building and energy-efficient design standards.”

OneRoof owner New Zealand Media Entertainment (NZME) has also given its property magazine Herald Homes a makeover. The supplement will now include data and insights collected by OneRoof.

Discussing the company’s Best Venture award, NZME chief digital officer Laura Maxwell said she is proud of what the OneRoof team has accomplished through their “unrelenting passion to disrupt and change the game.” The site was launched just 15 months ago but is already the country’s No.2 vertical with 1.4 million monthly visits in Sept., according to SimilarWeb. First-placed RealEstate.co.nz, which has been online since 1996, saw 1.7 million visits during the same month.

“We needed to build a product that stood out strongly in the market,” Maxwell explained. “Property hunter interviews clarified that although people were used to searching for property in a certain way, it was far from efficient.” She credits OneRoof’s customer-centric, data-rich content model for the site’s success.

The Deloitte judges agreed. “This nomination has tested the limits of the industry with their consumer-centric focus and value-adding execution,” they said in a statement. “With strong performance already, this team overcame significant competitive forces along the way to develop a market-leading platform.”
