The in-app payment feature holds a buyer’s money until the item is delivered. In the event of any issues with the purchase, the buyer can raise a dispute to refund, exchange or return the item. For sellers, there’s no extra cost for the added protection and the company says it will help prevent buyers from changing their mind and cancelling orders.
The initiative comes amid increasing efforts from governments to protect the exchange of personal information. Carousell Protection is currently in beta, and is available in the fashion, health and beauty categories on its Malaysia site.
