Carousell announced this week that it had appointed Jennifer Lim as the online marketplace’s new head of people. In her new role, Lim will be charged with managing the Singapore-based company’s talent acquisition strategy.
The move comes on the heels of Carousell’s $850 million U.S. merger with 701Search, which operates marketplaces in Malaysia, Vietnam and Myanmar. As part of her new role, Lim is tasked with leading efforts to scale up the newly merged business.
Lim (LinkedIn profile) brings over 20 years of experience in human resources and talent management. She previously served as chief people officer at Singapore-based video-on-demand service HOOQ and Nike’s human resources director for the APAC region.
“One of our greatest strengths now is having a passionate and talented team of over 750 who are deeply committed to our mission,” said Siu Rui Quek, Carousell’s co-founder and CEO. “With Lim’s experience in scaling talent, engagement, and synergy across complex global organizations, we can focus on realizing the full potential of our people, and reimagining classifieds for our users.”
In December, JJ Chai, the company’s former SVP of growth and strategy, announced he was leaving the company for India-based tech startup XTo10X. Chai was instrumental in leading the company’s verticalization process, which included the acquisition of automotive startup Caarly in 2017 and the launch of a property vertical in 2018.
