In the newly created position, Banikarim will be in charge of NextDoor’s marketing and communications and will lead the neighborhood social app’s teams outside the U.S.
Banikarim brings more than 25 years of experience in managing global brands and international teams, according to a news release from the company.
Most recently, Banikarim served as global CMO of Hyatt Hotels, leading the company’s successful “A World of Understanding” campaign. She’s also credited with raising brand awareness and organic user acquisition across online and offline channels. Before Hyatt, she was SVP and CMO of Gannett.
She will be based in NextDoor’s New York office and will work with major clients to help drive the company’s global expansion.
NextDoor, a social networking app that makes money from sponsored posts and advertising on a real estate listings page, secured $170 million U.S. in funding last September. The company says it has users in more than 247,000 neighborhoods across 10 countries.
