Prosus-owned OLX Group has acquired a majority stake in CarSmile, a Poland-based car leasing and rental startup, for an undisclosed amount. The investment will help OLX expand in the new car segment.
CarSmile was founded by Michał Knitter and Łukasz Domański in mid-2018. The company lets customers lease or rent a car long-term online. Users can choose from over 1,000 vehicles, including vans and premium cars. The startup has leased or rented over 2,500 cars and has around 300,000 monthly users, according to a report from WirtulneMedia.pl.
CarSmile is co-owned by private equity fund Solter Capital, which acquired a stake in the company at the beginning of 2019.
OLX Group’s Polish portfolio includes the general classified site OLX.pl, auto site Otomoto.pl, heavy machinery site Otomoto Profi, car-buying service 321sprzedane.pl, an international marketplace for used commercial vehicles and heavy machinery Tradus.com, real estate site Otodom.pl, and services site Fixly.pl.
