Facebook has announced plans to launch its popular Marketplace service in Kenya.

The company said Marketplace will be introduced in phases, with a full launch due by November.

“We had already seen people buying and selling with each other on Facebook so we decided to launch Facebook Marketplace — a safe and convenient destination in the Facebook app where Kenyans can discover, buy and sell items from people in their community,” Facebook Head of Public Policy for East and Horn of Africa, Mercy Ndegwa said.

Although Facebook has just 7 million users in Kenya, the company is banking on the popularity of private classified groups among Facebook users.

Facebook Marketplace launched four years ago in the U.S. It currently operates in four other African countries: South Africa, Egypt, Algeria and Morocco.
