Facebook has announced the rollout of its popular Marketplace service in Ethiopia.

The service offers a convenient destination where people can discover, buy and sell items from others in their local communities.

Commenting on the rollout, Facebook Head of Public Policy for East & Horn of Africa Mercy Ndegwa said, “We are excited to launch Facebook Marketplace, a product that will complement the growing eCommerce market in Ethiopia.

“We had already seen people buying and selling with each other on Facebook so we decided to launch Facebook Marketplace…”

The service is being rolled out in Ethiopia gradually and its full launch will be available by the end of November this year.

There are over 6 million people who use Facebook in Ethiopia.

Facebook Marketplace launched four years ago in the U.S. It currently operates in five other African countries: South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco and Kenya.
