MercadoLibre, an e-commerce and classifieds site operating in several Latin American countries, has named Luciano Avila as the company’s head of Brazil marketplace motors key accounts, the AIM Group has learned.

Avila (LinkedIn profile) was the former head of autos at OLX-Brazil, a 50/50 joint venture between Prosus and Adevinta, which recently completed its acquisition of real estate holding Grupo Zap.

At OLX-Brazil, Avila managed a commercial team for large groups of cars, auto parts, trucks and buses, developed partnerships and implemented the company’s monetization plans.

Before OLX-Brazil, he was a regional sales account with WebMotors, a leading auto vertical in Brazil owned by Santander and CarSales.

Avila assumes his position at Meli at the same time another senior executive, Caio Ribeiro, leaves the company. Ribeiro was MercadoLibre’s head of classifieds for Latin America.

Latin America-wide, autos is a strong vertical within the non-marketplace business at MercadoLibre.
