Prosus Ventures, the investment arm of Prosus, has appointed Sachin Bhanot to spearhead the company’s efforts to increase investment stakes in South East Asia, DealStreetAsia reported today.

Bhanot (LinkedIn profile) left his role as principal at the U.S.-based venture capital firm B Capital Group Management LP to take on the position at Prosus Ventures. Bhanot previously worked with the UAE-headquartered investment private equity firm Abraaj Group and Kuala Lumpur-based financial service provider Cgs-Cimb Group Holdings BHD.

Prosus has expressed its interest in bulking up its portfolio in India in the past. Bhanot’s appointment indicates the group is also looking to increase its holdings in Southeast Asia.

Prosus Ventures collaborates with entrepreneurs to build tech companies. Its only classifieds investment right now is social commerce platform Meesho.

However, Prosus, the multinational marketplace company that South Africa-based Naspers spun off in 2019, is a shareholder in several companies operating in the region, including FCG and Carousell and OLX.
