OLX has appointed Sebastiaan Lemmens as general manager of OLX Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria and Bosnia.
Lemmens (LinkedIn profile) has been with the classified giant for three and a half years. He was previously serving as head of analytics, COO and most recently head of OLX.pt in Portugal.
“The coming years will be extremely interesting for us, as a region,” said Lemmens, adding that the company expected the numbers of both individuals and companies buying and selling online to continue to grow, a trend that he said OLX had a major role in maintaining. “Our commitment remains to invest consistently in creating appropriate, accessible online experiences and in launching new help tools for businesses that need to sell more online, recruit faster or find their customers more easily.”
By working on the continuous development of several markets, OLX would be able to achieve these objectives more quickly through constant support for its regional teams, Lemmens said.
Lemmens replaces Cristina Gheorghițoiu, who oversaw the transition of Romanian brand Mercador to OLX.ro in 2014. Gheorghițoiu had “managed this complicated transition, brought the brand into a leadership position and managed to obtain continuous business growth, transforming OLX into the most famous online advertising brand in Romania,” said an OLX spokesperson.
OLX Romania, part of the Naspers-backed OLX Group, is the dominant horizontal in the country. It has over 4 million active adverts and a monthly average of 12 million visitors, according to the company.
