Chris Venter

Australia-based REA Group has appointed former ANZ bank technology boss Chris Venter (LinkedIn profile) as its CTO, replacing previous CTO Tomas Varsavsky.

Venter previously spent 11 years with ANZ in various technology roles, most recently as its GM of business transformation technology. He also held technology consulting roles at Deloitte and Accenture.

“We are delighted to have someone of Chris’s calibre joining our team,” CEO Owen Wilson said in a statement. “Chris’s deep technology expertise spans critical capabilities including agile delivery, technology transformation and scaling with impact, which will support our strategic ambitions and contribute to REA’s future growth and business efficiencies.”

Venter’s appointment follows Tomas Varsavsky’s departure earlier this month, to take up a role at discount online marketplace Catch.

On his appointment, Venter said he “looks forward to working with some of the brightest minds in the industry to leverage new and existing technologies to continue to improve and differentiate REA’s customer and consumer experiences, as well as increase speed and efficiency to market.”
