Social app Nextdoor has hired LinkedIn alumnus Kiran Prasad as head of product. Reporting directly to CEO Sarah Friar, Prasad will lead the neighborhood app’s product vision, strategy, and execution, and manage the company’s design and research teams.
In the hiring announcement, Friar wrote, “Kiran is an inspiring leader who is passionate about building communities. Both an engineer and product thinker, his ability to understand the importance of community coupled with his proven success with developing innovative consumer platforms make him a strong addition for Nextdoor, and I’m thrilled to welcome him to the neighborhood.”
Prasad (LinkedIn profile) has more than 20 years of engineering and product experience, managing global brands and international teams.
Until earlier this month, he served as VP of product at LinkedIn, where he led strategy and product development for the LinkedIn Consumer Experience and Premium businesses. He started at LinkedIn in January 2011 as senior director of engineering mobile.
Before joining LinkedIn, he was the senior director of applications at Palm, Inc. where he developed webOS, Palm’s first Windows phone, and worked on Palm’s original Treo device.
Prasad replaces former Nextdoor head of product Tatyana Mamut, who left the company this past November, according to her LinkedIn profile. Mamut is now an advisor and board member for several technology firms.
Prasad was born in India and moved to the U.S. at the age of eight, according to the hiring announcement. Based in the Bay Area near Nextdoor’s headquarters, he is married with two children.
Nextdoor has snagged a number of leaders from LinkedIn over the past year. Prasad follows ex-LinkedIn colleagues Juliana Jaoudi, who joined Nextdoor earlier this month as lead of global enterprise ad sales, and Heidi Andersen, who moved to Nextdoor in July to be chief revenue officer.
