Lancers Inc., a Japanese freelance recruitment marketplace, has posted its 2021 fiscal year results (April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021), reporting a net profit of Y37 million ($338,320 U.S.), a considerable improvement compared to its net loss of Y353 million ($3.3 million U.S.) in FY2020. The company reported Y3.9 billion in net sales, up 11.3% year-on-year from Y3.5 billion.

Lancers began trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in Dec. 2019 and has reported earnings per share of Y2.38 (0.02 cents U.S.), another y-on-y gain from the Y27.91 (0.26 cents U.S.) loss per share in 2020. This represents a 2.1% return on equity, a 1.5% return on assets and an operating profit ratio of 0.9%, all of which show y-on-y growth from 2020’s negative returns: (26.1%), (12%), and (8.8%), respectively. 

At the time of writing, shares in Lancers (TSE: 4484) are down 15.2% at Y556 per share, a low point for the stock’s yearly range of Y556 to Y1,638.

Looking ahead to FY 2022, Lancers is projecting an operating loss of Y452 million, a modest 0.9% growth in net sales, and a Y28.87 loss per share.

CrowdWorks, another freelance marketplace based in Japan, has reported their Q1 and Q2 results for the 2021 fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021) with a net profit of Y231 million  and Y15.18 per share (TSE: 3900).
