“Wanna take an extra week off? With pay.” Who would say no to that?

SmartRecruiters CEO Jerome Ternynck gave his employees an extra week off at the end of last year, due to their hard work during Covid. But he just went above and beyond. He granted all employees another week off, and shut the whole company down for the week — this week — so everyone would be off at the same time.

“We received overwhelmingly positive feedback after giving employees additional time off at the end of last year,” Ternynck said. “While employees have the option to take paid time off with unlimited PTO as a standard benefit, we understand that they often feel a responsibility to their colleagues and their work, preventing them from truly unplugging every once in a while to relax and recharge.”

Customer support continues. While the company is closed, it has “support and services team members on call and available to address customer needs.” And any employees who work on support during the company-wide shutdown period will receive their choice of alternative paid days off.

In the announcement on its website, the company said that “[by] refusing to lay off any employees during a global pandemic, SmartRecruiters added 200-plus enterprise customers, grew revenue 50% and experienced 70% bookings growth.”

SmartRecruiters is an enterprise recruitment software platform working with 4,000 companies worldwide. It recently reported a $110 million Series E funding round, with a valuation of $1.5 billion.
