Italy-based auto marketplace AutoScout24.it has introduced a new feature that allows users to create ads and sell cars by entering their license plate numbers.
After entering the license plate and selecting the model, users can simply enter the mileage, price and photos. All the typical car features and equipment will be preloaded automatically. The system recognizes cars registered after 1994 with the AA000AA format. If the car is older or is not recovered, customers can still use manual entry by make and model.
The service is initially live in Italy but may be eventually rolled out across the remaining AutoScout24 sites in Europe. The marketplace is owned by private equity fund Hellman & Friedman.
The data relating to the car model and the date of registration will be obtained from the database of the auto companies, while basic information about the car, such as its features and the list of standard options, are based on the Motornet, Eurotax database, which contains information on all car models on the market.
Regarding privacy, plates indicated will be used exclusively to retrieve information on the type of car, but will in no way be shown on the auto retail classified. The announcement will not share personal data that could connect the license plate with the owner of the car.
