British digital auto dealer Cazoo has appointed Abhishek Roy as European managing director to lead the companies’ forthcoming expansion into mainland Europe.

Roy (LinkedIn profile) is a digital executive with 15 years’ experience managing European consumer technology businesses. His most recent role from October 2016 was as CEO of EBay’s leading Nordic e-commerce platforms, DBA and Bilbasen, where he led the sale of those companies to the Schibsted Media Group.

Prior to that role, from 2013, he was chief product officer at Mobile.de, Germany’s largest car marketplace, where he helped scale the company. He has also held several strategy and operations roles at EBay Europe and started his career as an analyst for Oliver Wyman. He holds a degree in Economics from Cambridge University and an MBA from INSEAD.

At Cazoo he will be responsible for the launch of Cazoo across Europe. He will be leading the recruitment of more specialist staff to grow the team from its current number of 300. Cazoo plans to launch in Germany and France before the end of 2021. Roy will join Cazoo’s executive team and report to Cazoo’s group chief operating officer Paul Whitehead.

Earlier today, Cazoo announced its financial results for the first six months of 2021. The company sold 20,454 cars, a 401% year-on-year from 4,084 in H12020. It achieved revenue of £248 million ($337 million U.S.) a 521% increase from £40 million in H12020 but made an adjusted EBITDA loss of £69 million ($94 million U.S.) in the period.
