The International Classified Marketplace Association (ICMA) has appointed Michael Berger, the head of Styria Marketplaces, as its new chairman of the board. Berger will succeed Sang-Woo Pai, CEO of the German Doctari Group.

The ICMA is an international non-profit trade organisation based in Amsterdam. It represents global companies in the international classifieds industry, including some of the biggest names. The association is known for its conferences and networking events, but these have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Covid had an impact on the entire marketplace industry and thus of course also on the ICMA.  When the pandemic emerged, we as an association reacted very quickly and developed new digital event formats that have replaced our previously purely physical meetings,” said Berger.

“We succeeded to provide great content and learning experiences for our members and our industry. These real-time insights into the market have been very well received by the members and have also helped us all navigate these difficult times.”

Berger is no stranger to the ICMA. He has been part of the board of directors for several years and now plans to revive the association’s physical events. “They are particularly important for the exchange of knowledge and the development of digital marketplaces,” he said.

Since 2014, Berger has been heading the digital marketplaces division at Austria-based Styria Media Group, where he is focused on expanding the company’s portfolio. In this position he is responsible for market-leading websites including willhaben.at in Austria, njuskalo.hr in Croatia, as well as bolha.com and mojedelo.com in Slovenia.
