Three major Brazilian marketplaces have launched an online campaign to raise awareness about fraud in online transactions.

Brazilian horizontal OLX-Brazil, ecommerce and classifieds site MercadoLivre, and autos specialist ICarros joined forces to fight online fraud. ICarros is owned by Itau bank.

The three marketplaces launched the Digital Safety Week or the Semana da Segurança Digital, a website aimed at educating users on how to safely conduct online and offline transactions.

The website alerts users about frauds coming out of messenger app WhatsApp and how to identify fake seller profiles.

The initiative is also supported by the Brazilian Chamber of Digital Economy and Fenauto, the Brazilian dealers’ association.

Most Brazilian marketplaces, including horizontals and auto verticals like ICarros and WebMotors alert their users about potential frauds. WebMotors is owned by Santander Bank (70%) and CarSales (30%).
