Auto1 Group, the Germany-based digital auto dealer, has leased a production center in Warsaw where it will recondition used cars for its consumer retailing brand AutoHero.

Renting the 22,200 m² facility, which includes a production workshop and a yard for temporary car storage, will increase production capacity by around 18,000 vehicles annually at full capacity, and generate more than 275 new specialist jobs, says the company.

“Bringing used car production in-house allows Autohero to fully control each step of the process, which will lead to a faster and more efficient production process,” said Auto1 Group. The facility will be operational immediately.

“After successfully securing in-house production capacities in Hemau and Berlin/Brandenburg in Germany, we are now expanding our international production strategy into the next market. We are very proud to sign our new production center in Poland’s metropolis Warsaw, which will help us to further scale our superior product proposition,” said Christian Bertermann, CEO and co-founder of Auto1 Group.

“Customers are seeking to buy their next car entirely online and are increasingly moving away from traditional time-consuming and unsatisfying car buying experiences. We are excellently positioned to meet the strongly increasing demand.”

Auto1, via AutoHero, is one of the major players developing automotive e-commerce in Europe.

Sitting atop continental Europe’s largest car-sourcing business, trading 450,000 cars in 2020, the group is strong in data, logistics and European market knowledge.

While AutoHero was launched in 2017, Auto1 really started to focus on it only in March 2020.

AutoHero — which promises customers “a convenient and secure car purchasing experience through a completely digitized process” — inspects each vehicle, and offers nationwide delivery to either a nearby pick-up location, or directly to the doorstep. Buyers get a 21-day money-back guarantee and a one-year warranty.

AutoHero is active in nine countries: Italy, Germany, Austria, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain and Poland. Its car-buying corporate sibling brand WirKaufenDeinAuto (“We buy your car,” or WKDA) operates in 11 markets.

In 2020, Auto1 Group raised €255 million ($289 million U.S.) of capital from investment funds to finance the development of AutoHero.
