Allegro, an operator of leading b-to-c and c-to-c marketplaces in Poland, has appointed David Roberts as its new chief technology and product officer (CTPO), effective from mid-January 2022.

Roberts (LinkedIn profile) has joined the company after four years at Zalando, where he was responsible for strategic matters including vision, process design, scaling up teams and delivering growth for the marketplace. Before Zalando, Roberts worked at Amazon in the U.S. in engineering & product leadership. Prior to that, he was in charge of the AOL engineering team and developed projects in India and China.

Allegro’s new CTPO will be responsible for leading the internal development team and cooperation with external providers to further improve the experience of millions of consumers and merchants active on the platform, the company said in a news release announcing the move.

Allegro’s FY2020 net revenue was 4 billion Polish zlotys ($1.1 billion U.S.), up by 54.2% from 2.6 billion Polish zlotys in FY2019. Adjusted EBITDA was 1.8 billion Polish zlotys ($475 million U.S.) last year, which was 30.8% more than in FY2019.

As of the end of 2020, Allegro had around 13 million active buyers on its marketplace, an increase of almost 15% from 2019.
