SMG Swiss Marketplace Group, the joint venture created in November following the merger of Switzerland-based Scout24 Schweiz and TX Markets, has appointed Jens Paul Berndt its chief technology officer.

Berndt (LinkedIn profile) has held various roles at real estate portal Homegate since 2016, initially as CTO and most recently as CEO.

Prior to that, he had taken on management positions at the German Scout24 Group in Berlin and Vienna.

Gilles Despas, SMG Swiss Marketplace Group CEO, said of the appointment, “Jens embodies the perfect CTO for us. He knows the industry like the back of his hand, and with his technological background and broad management experience, he brings everything it takes to successfully take us forward as a group in the digital marketplace space.”

Berndt joins Despas on the company’s executive leadership team, alongside CFO Boris Gussen, integration leader Jessica List, and the managing directors of the business units Pierre-Alain Regali (automotive), Martin Waeber (real estate) and Francesco Vass (general marketplaces).

SMG Swiss Marketplace Group AG’s portfolio includes real estate (immoscout24.ch, homegate.ch, ImmoStreet.ch, home.ch, Acheter-Louer.ch), automotive (autoscout24.ch, motoscout24.ch, Car For You), general marketplaces (anibis.ch, tutti.ch, Ricardo.ch) and finance and insurance (financescout24.ch).

Publicly listed TX Group AG (formerly Tamedia), the parent of TX Markets, holds a 31% interest in the new business. Marketplace and media company Ringier AG and leading Swiss insurance company La Mobilière each hold a 29.5% share and General Atlantic has a 10% interest. The four shareholders each have 25% of voting rights.
