British online used car marketplace Carzam has appointed Laura Chapman as its first chief people officer.

Chapman (LinkedIn profile) joins from Sytner’s Carshop where she spent eight years and her most recent position was head of HR business partnering.

Chapman is the most recent of a number of recent appointments to Carzam’s senior leadership team after the company raised $150 million in a November 2021 funding round. Carzam appointed former Paddy Power CEO Andy McCue as its new executive chairman in December and last week, Edgardo Savoy as its chief technology officer.

Carzam said it would also use the funding to aggressively invest in stock and improve its infrastructure to ensure the company is prepared to meet the challenges expected from rising consumer demand.

“Joining Carzam as the company gears up for exponential growth is a fantastic opportunity,” said Chapman. “The board recognise the vital role that Carzam’s people have played in the company’s success to date, and that they will only become more important from this point.

“Over the coming months, my focus will be on training, development, recruitment, and building a people strategy that will support Carzam’s ambitions for rapid growth in 2022 and beyond.”

Carzam sold 13,500 cars in its first year of trading generating around £150 million ($204 million U.S.) in revenue.

“This year will be pivotal in the Carzam story and now it’s time to expand our offering with more stock coming through to meet demand,” said Carzam CEO Kirk O’Callaghan.

“To do this successfully we will need to nurture our team, attract new talent and offer progression for our people. Laura’s appointment puts us in a strong position to keep our team at our core as we take our next steps.
