Experienced property professional Gary Barker has joined The Lettings Hub as chief technology officer.

Barker (LinkedIn profile) will retain two non-executive director positions at ePropservices and HMO software firm COHO for now. His last full-time role was as group technology officer at Connells.

Prior to that he spent almost 16 years at estate agency business platform provider Reapit, where he was CEO from June 2013 until early 2021. He had a brief period working for ex-Purplebricks CEO Michael Bruce’s new business, Boomin, but left abruptly for Connells.

Barker will lead The Lettings Hub’s innovation team to deliver pre-tenancy products and technology to its clients.

“Having spent over 15 years delivering tech that enables the lettings market, I am really impressed by The Lettings Hub tenancy progression platform, BOX,” said Barker.

“Letting agents need solutions that reduce the costs and time of on-boarding tenants and digitizes the lettings consumer journey to make it far easier for tenants and landlords.”

He added, “The innovative Property Passport solution also stood out to me as I can see a huge opportunity to improve the portal and lead enquiry process by providing agents with pre-vetted applicants at a time when there are eight applicants per property.”

Heidi Shackell, CEO at The Lettings Hub, described the appointment as “a great start to 2022” for her company, which she confirmed intends to make several further senior appointments to strengthen its team.

“Gary’s CV, industry experience and history speaks for itself. There isn’t much he doesn’t know about proptech or the property industry, and we’re confident he will lead our innovation team to continue to deliver the best pre-tenancy journey, products, and tech to both our existing and new clients,” Shackell said.

“Value and efficiency for our clients drive every decision we make about BOX, and Gary has a wealth of experience in delivering tech solutions that remove challenges and barriers for letting agents — the two go hand in hand and we’re confident for the future.”
