FlexJobs.com, a pioneer in the gig and temporary work space, has acquired recruitment consultancy Localwise for undisclosed terms.

FlexJobs, founded in 2007 and based in Colorado, is a recruitment site that claims to provide the largest database of vetted and hand-screened remote and flexible job listings.

Localwise, based in Oakland, Calif., has more than 519,000 registered members who can create profiles, network with each other, enable fast-application submissions, view the status of their applications, and secure local work.

Localwise boasts “a full suite of local hiring solutions” and a team of hiring consultants. It says it has helped more than 50,000 employers find workers. The company had raised $1 million in funding since its establishment in 2014, according to Crunchbase.

“Localwise’s mission of building local companies, careers, and communities is an inspiring and natural extension of the FlexJobs brand,” FlexJobs founder and CEO Sara Sutton wrote in the acquisition announcement. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Localwise under our umbrella and to continue supporting job seekers in their various work needs and location preferences.”

Localwise will now operate under the FlexJobs name, and the localwise.com domain already redirects to the new owner’s jobs page.

Different to most job sites, which derive all their revenue from the employer side, FlexJobs monetises on the job-seeker side as well, keeping full details of individual job listings behind a paywall.
