Adevinta Spain’s Milanuncios has published a guide in conjunction with smartphone payment app Bizum to help users of the general goods marketplace avoid falling victim to fraud.

Cases of fraud perpetrated through marketplaces like Milanuncios and Wallapop are regularly reported in the Spanish media and deter some from using the platforms. The advice offered by the guide includes being skeptical of offers that appear too good to be true, and of poorly written ads (as this is a sign that they may have been written by a bot), remaining within the Milanuncios app to make a purchase, refraining from clicking on external links, not sharing personal information with sellers and saving all messages and notifications received during the buying process.

Launched by a number of local banks in 2016, Bizum allows users to make person-to-person payments through a smartphone. It enables fast and secure payments from one bank account to another, requiring only the recipient’s mobile phone number. The app is widely used in Spain for making payments for goods purchased through online marketplaces.
