Zillow has added a new property-information feature that highlights condos that are eligible for loans subsidized by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
The feature seeks to help the 19 million U.S. military veterans who are eligible for VA home loans, according to Zillow’s announcement.
Most detached single-family homes can be financed with a VA loan, but condominium complexes need express department approval before individual units are eligible.
Before Zillow added the VA information to its condo listings, shoppers would have to toggle between condo search and the Department of Veterans Affairs website to see which condos were eligible. The new feature saves shoppers’ time and takes the guesswork out of the mortgage question, according to Zillow.
The VA loan information, found on condo home and building-detail pages, is part of Zillow’s social-impact strategy. Features in the same vein include information about LGBTQ local legal protections and information about down payment assistance programs for financially strapped shoppers.
Additionally, Zillow connects VA-loan-eligible home buyers to VA lenders through its dedicated VA lender page.
