CarGurus named Javier Zamora as its general counsel and leader of the company’s legal team. Zamora will report to CEO Jason Trevisan.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Javier to CarGurus,” Trevisan wrote in the hiring announcement. “He brings both extensive legal experience and a strong track record of leading diverse teams.” Zamora added: “I’m excited to join CarGurus at such a pivotal time of growth for the company and am eager to be part of our journey to evolve the car-buying and selling experience for consumers and dealers.”
Zamora replaces Kathleen Patton, who held the job for four years before moving to recruitment site Jobcase as general counsel last fall.
Zamora has more than 20 years of experience as a corporate attorney. Most recently, Zamora served as general counsel for the sneaker company Converse, Inc., a Nike subsidiary that shares CarGurus’s home base of Boston.
Before taking that job in early 2021, he worked for Nike at its headquarters in Oregon, doing legal work for various company divisions. His responsibilities covered supply chain, manufacturing, sourcing, IT, intellectual property, brand marketing, compliance, ethics, operations, logistics, and social and community impact.
A strong believer in investing in diversity and inclusion, Zamora served as executive sponsor of the Converse Mosaic Employee Network and co-chair of its Military Veterans Network.
Zamora is a military veteran who served as an officer in the U.S. Army and Navy Reserves, including a tour of active duty in Iraq.
Zamora began his career in corporate and securities law for a national law firm based in Chicago, where he served on the board of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. He then joined Nike as an assistant general counsel, where he expanded his responsibility by covering supply chain, manufacturing, sourcing, IT, IP, brand marketing, compliance, ethics, operations, logistics, and social and community impact.
