German Auto1 Group, Europe’s leading digital automotive platform for buying and selling used cars online, rented two processing centers in Italy. Furthermore, the company appointed two new members to its supervisory board, further strengthening the Group’s expertise in marketing, financial services, and ESG.
The new centers are based in the communities of Pizzale and Oriolo, around 60 kilometers from Milan, where up to 23,800 vehicles can be processed annually on an area of 126,000 m². The primary focus will be on used cars for the “Autohero” brand.
According to Autohero, the move will offer a uniform quality standard for their vehicles since Autohero will keep the used-car preparation in its own hands. In addition, the preparation process can be made faster and more efficient, as a spokesman for the Auto1 Group announced.
Autohero can now take over the preparations for the used cars to be sold – repair, clean, and disinfect the cars, and produce photo and video recordings. The processing centers in Pizzale and Oriolo are scheduled to start operating between October and November. Auto1 Group wants to hire more than 250 employees for the new sites over time.
Pizzale and Oriolo are the fifth and sixth processing centers leased by Auto1 Group in the last year. Autohero thus has an internal processing capacity of up to 114,000 vehicles per year at full capacity.
Through Autohero, buyers get the car delivered to their doorstep free of charge or can choose to pick it up at an Autohero location near them. The used cars are sold with a 21-day money-back guarantee and a one-year used car warranty.
Christian Bertermann, managing director and co-founder of Auto1 Group, stated: “We are proud to set up our own detailing centers in Italy, which are an integral part of our retail business. Each processing center significantly contributes to making our business more efficient and profitable. The two Italian detailing centers in Pizzale and Oriolo allow us to deliver more cars with excellent quality and at high speed, thus continuing to develop the best solution for buying and selling used cars in Italy.”
Next to the expansion in Italy, Vassilia Kennedy, senior global managing director Google Brand, and Lars Santelmann, chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen Financial Services AG until February 2022, were appointed as Supervisory Board members by the Annual General Meeting in June.
Kennedy has leadership experience in marketing, PR and change management and has held senior positions at Benetton Sportsystem/KÄSTLE SKI, adidas AG and Condé Nast Publishing, among others. Before joining Auto1, she was part of Google’s global marketing leadership team. As part of her supervisory board function at Auto1 Group, she chairs the group’s marketing and branding committee.
Santelmann was part of Volkswagen Group for a long time, working as chief sales officer of Seat S.A. and at Volkswagen Financial Services AG, where he was a member of the Board of Management for several years before being appointed CEO in 2015, a position he held until February 2022. As part of his supervisory board activities at Auto1 Group, Santelmann chairs the ESG Committee and is also a member of the Audit Committee.
Founded by Hakan Koc and Christian Berterman in 2013, Auto1 Group is currently Europe’s largest digital dealer of used cars and is the parent company of WirKaufenDeinAuto, Auto1, and AutoHero. Headquartered in Berlin, the group reported revenue of €1.6 billion ($1.7 billion U.S.) in Q1 2022.
