Marimekko, a Finnish fashion and textile business, will launch a marketplace for Marimekko vintage and second-hand goods later this month.
The company’s marketplace, Marimekko Pre-Loved, will let individuals and businesses sell their Marimekko used clothes and other goods. With the launch of the marketplace, Marimekko seeks to increase the lifespan of its products, which is one of the key elements of the company’s strategy.
Marimekko’s initiative follows a pilot concept launched in August 2021, during which Marimekko sold 60 unique vintage pieces online in celebration of the brand’s 70th anniversary.
At first, Marimekko’s marketplace will only be available in the brand’s home market Finland, but the service is planned to be also extended to other markets shortly, the company said in a news release announcing its move.
Joining and listing items on the Marimekko Pre-Loved marketplace will be free of charge. Sellers will be able to either directly redeem their earnings in cash or exchange them for a gift voucher to be used in Marimekko’s online store.
The Marimekko Pre-Loved marketplace is built in collaboration with Archive, a resale technology company that builds customized marketplaces for brands to incorporate secondhand into their business.
