Allegro, an operator of b-to-c and c-to-c marketplaces in Poland, is preparing to launch its marketplace in the Czech Republic, according to a post on its website Allegro.cz. The post says that “One of the largest European marketplaces is coming to the Czech Republic” and that “The final countdown begins. Soon.”
Allegro has been expanding internationally for some time. It acquired Czech e-commerce platform Mall Group and logistics business WeDo in April. These operate in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Poland. It also launched an English language version of its flagship site Allegro.pl in early 2022.
In September, the company appointed Jakub Jasiński as category manager for Central and Eastern Europe. He is now responsible for driving Allegro’s growth outside of Poland.
Allegro’s 2021 revenue was PLN5.4 billion ($1.3 billion), up from PLN4.0 billion in 2020. Adjusted EBITDA was PLN 2.0B, up from PLN 1.8B in 2020. At the end of 2021, Allegro had 13.5 million active buyers on its marketplace, an increase of 3% from 2020.
