Burcu Yakupoğlu Silan (pictured) has been appointed head of brand at Kavak MEA, according to a LinkedIn announcement.
Silan (LinkedIn profile) has been working for the Mexico-based digital auto retailer Kavak.com for two years, joining as head of brand in September 2021 when the company increased its valuation to become the second-most-valuable private start-up in Latin America.
Since then, Kavak has expanded from three markets — Mexico, Argentina and Brazil — to nine, adding Turkey, Colombia, Peru, Chile, the UAE and Oman. It entered Turkey in 2021 with the acquisition of GarajSepeti.
Kavak is rapidly expanding in the Middle East. It acquired auto marketplace Carzaty and has earmarked $130 million U.S. for investment in the region.
Before joining Kavak, Silan worked for Colgate-Palmolive, Nestlé and Unilever. She has a degree in business administration and management from Sabanci University and a masters in management from SDA Bocconi.
