Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Germany-based auto manufacturer Daimler AG, has launched used-truck sales under the brand name BharatBenz Certified, according to a news release.

BharatBenz is a truck brand owned by DICV that offers 17 models on the Mercedes-Benz Axor platform that are built specifically for India.

The new service will see DICV refurbish and sell used BharatBenz trucks procured as part of an existing exchange program. BharatBenz Certified will initially be available in Bengaluru, both through a local dealership and online.

“… market research … brought to our attention the aspiration of customers who would like to purchase used BharatBenz trucks. This need in the market gave birth to the idea of launching BharatBenz Certified, a company-steered, used commercial vehicle business initiative,” said Rajaram K, president of marketing, sales and customer service at BharatBenz.

The program, which the company said would soon be expanded nationwide, includes a 125-point quality check, a six-month warranty and a detailed pre-delivery inspection. In addition, BharatBenz Certified offers such ancillary services as annual maintenance contracts.

The entry of manufacturers into used-vehicle sales is a trend in India. Kia India launched a programme called Kia CPO last December, while Volvo India offers a certified used car service called Selekt.

The growing popularity of the direct-selling model draws comes in the wake of the success of such multi-brand marketplaces as CarTrade Tech, CarDekho Group and Cars24 in India.
