HelloMentor has launched an online mentoring website, backed by its proprietary AI career assistant, Athena, to accelerate the study-to-work transition for students worldwide. The service will start with more than 100,000 students across the Netherlands in the coming months.

Backed by VC firm Antler, HelloMentor says the development and refinement of the system took almost a year, with small and medium enterprises already benefiting from its data-driven approach to career transitions, according to a blogpost.

Headquartered in Amsterdam and founded in 2018, HelloMentor connects mentors with mentees based on their interests, skills and learning goals. It also charges a subscription fee for employer branding on social media and through other marketing channels.

“Our AI, Athena, takes real-world data and builds it into a sophisticated algorithm that creates personalized career recommendations for students matching their studies, interests and mentors,” said co-founder Quincy Dalh.

“Our own journey mirrors the mentorships we seek to facilitate — it’s been challenging, rewarding and packed full of learning. With Athena, we’re excited to make this process accessible and more personalized for the next generation.”

As skills and jobs are expected to evolve over the next five years, individuals need to adapt to new demands and adjust for the workplace of the future, according to the World Economic Forum’s The Future of Jobs Report 2023.

“Over 85% of organizations surveyed identify increased adoption of new and frontier technologies and broadening digital access as the trends most likely to drive transformation in their organization,” noted the report.
