General marketplace Mercari U.S. is to leverage Rokt’s machine learning-backed e-commerce tech to enrich the post-checkout customer experience by presenting relevant offers to each shopper, according to a news release.

Mercari U.S., a part of Japan-based marketplace operator Mercari Inc., will “integrate Rokt into its mobile, listings and payment marketplace transaction flow.”

Rokt enables companies to unlock new revenue streams and build relationships with customers by offering personalized recommendations to shoppers at the end of their shopping journey. It operates in 15 countries across North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

“We are excited to partner with Rokt to enhance our customers’ ecommerce shopping experience,” said Harshit Gupta, head of business development at Mercari.

“By leveraging Rokt’s technology, we will be able to offer our users even more relevant recommendations and create a more personalized shopping journey. This partnership reinforces our commitment to providing the best possible experience for our customers.”

Mercari launched in Japan in 2013 and  in the U.S. the following year. The Mercari app has been downloaded more than 50 million times in the U.S., with an average of 350,000 new listings uploaded every day.

Mercari’s partnership with Rokt follows its introduction of ChatGPT-powered shopping assistant Merchat AI in the U.S. However, it continues to operate at a loss in this market.
