Gautam Thakar, formerly global CEO of OLX Autos, has been appointed to the newly created position of global CEO of Prosus’ edtech businesses.
(LinkedIn profile), previously CFO of both Prosus’ edtech and food delivery subsidiaries, has been promoted to global CEO of its food verticals.
Prosus owns or holds investments in food delivery businesses such as Swiggy, ShareBite and Delivery Hero. Its edtech investments include in Byju’s, Udemy and Brainly. Thakar (LinkedIn profile) was appointed global CEO of OLX Autos in February 2021.
“As of September 1, we will separate food delivery and edtech into two discrete segments, each with its dedicated leadership team,” Prosus announced in an internal memo, according to ET. “These segments began as early-stage investments that have been diligently grown into world-class portfolios.”
In March, OLX owner Prosus expressed its intention to sell its global autos division, citing the increased cost of capital, elevated inflation and the reversal of pandemic trends on the used-car market. Earlier this month, India-based automotive marketplace CarTrade Tech completed the acquisition of OLX India (both the autos and horizontal classified businesses), while Astra International acquired OLX Autos Indonesia.
