LinkedIn has rolled out ID verification for Canadian users in cooperation with third-party vendor Clear.

Available free of charge and debuting earlier this month, the feature gives Canadian LinkedIn members “the opportunity to add an extra layer of trust and authenticity to their profiles,” the announcement states

The feature is powered by security vendor Clear, perhaps best known for its system that lets frequent fliers get through airport security checks with a fingerprint or eye scan.

To get the verification badge on LinkedIn, users need only a government-issued ID and a phone number.

The feature, which was rolled out in the U.S. in April, is intended to establish a user’s credibility in their interactions with others on the platform.

“This verification process sets a new standard for reliability and credibility on the platform, reinforcing LinkedIn’s commitment to fostering a trusted community of professionals in Canada,” according to the announcement.

A page in LinkedIn’s “Help” section explains how the feature is activated.
