BetterPlace, an India-based rechtech startup specializing in blue-collar recruitment, has appointed former Twilio executive Ved Antani as chief product and technology officer (CPTO).
Antani (LinkedIn profile) has two decades of experience building scalable products and platforms, the India Times reports. Prior to joining BetterPlace, Antani was general manager and vice president of engineering and product at Twilio, responsible for shaping the product vision of the company.
San Francisco-based Twilio provides programmable communication tools for making and receiving phone calls, sending and receiving text messages and performing other communication functions.
Earlier in his career, Antani worked for Myntra, a subsidiary of Walmart-owned Flipkart, and Oracle.
“Antani’s extensive experience in large-scale SaaS and ecommerce companies gives him a unique edge of not only understanding how platform economies work but also knowing the nitty gritty of using SaaS to achieve scale,” said Pravin Agarwala, co-founder and group CEO of BetterPlace. Antani is expected to helm the company’s AI revitalization.
Antani noted that, with the advent of AI, BetterPlace’s transformative tech stack could become the most impactful of the decade. “Digital transformation has been rampant in multiple industries and the workforce management space is now quickly catching up,” he said.
Founded in 2015 by Pravin Agarwala and Saurabh Tandon, BetterPlace has raised a total of $80 million to date and currently manages about four million workers.
In December 2022, it raised $40 million U.S. in a Series C funding round led by Macquarie Capital and Site Capital Partners, while in May this year, it acquired microfinance startup Bueno Finance Inc. before launching BetterPlace Money to provide short-term loans to “underserved” workers.
