Revenue at the classifieds division of Spain-based media company Grupo Vocento rose by 6.0% year on year (y-o-y) to €13.9 million ($14.9 million U.S.) during the first six months of 2023 (H1 2023).

EBITA rose by 36.3% y-o-y €2.6 million ($2.8 million) in H1 2023, with an EBITDA margin of 19.0%. EBIT increased at an even faster rate, rising by 68.2% y-o-y to €1.6 million.

The company noted that the automotive segment had been the main driver of growth in the classifieds division.

Total revenue at Vocento rose by 4.7% y-o-y to €171 million in H1 2023, with the bulk of this derived from its national and regional newspaper titles. However, total EBITDA fell by 54.6% y-o-y to €4.0 million.

As a result, the proportion of Vocento’s total revenue accounted for by its classifieds division edged up from 8.0% in H1 2022 to 8.1% in H1 2023. Despite its much smaller revenue figure, classifieds accounted for almost as much EBITDA as Vocento’s newspaper division in H1 2023 (€2.6 million versus €3.3 million).

Madrid-headquartered Vocento operates the second-largest marketplace vertical in the country, behind Barcelona-based Adevinta Spain. The former’s marketplaces include Pisos.com (real estate) and Autocasión, Motocasión and AutoScout24 (all automotive). Last year, Vocento launched long-term car rental service RentingCoches.
