India-based used vehicle marketplace Cars24 has appointed Deepak Gupta (pictured) as VP of engineering. This announcement comes after the company recently revealed plans to hire 100 tech staff and launched an R&D Centre in Bengaluru earlier this year.
According to a news release from the company, Gupta (LinkedIn profile) will focus on creating a scalable ecosystem of products, as well as and process innovation. An alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology — Delhi, he has more than two decades of experience working at the intersection of technology and business.
Gupta was the global head of technology and architecture at Airtel Africa — a subsidiary of New Delhi-headquartered telecoms giant Airtel — overseeing such verticals as Airtel Money and Airtel Payments Bank.
Gupta said he was looking forward to driving innovation by leveraging AI, data science and engineering expertise.
According to Cars24 CTO Marut Singh, “With Gupta’s rich experience across various verticals and ability to lead large teams, we are geared to offer our customers a world-class experience.”
Founded in 2015, Cars24 was initially a b-to-b marketplace but later shifted to a c-to-b-to-c model. Its consolidated operating revenue rose by 7.8% y-o-y to INR55.3 billion ($664 million U.S.) in the 12 months to March 2023.
