Originally a c-to-c marketplace, Mercari is increasingly working with third-party merchants. Komehyo sells items both through its own stores and online.
This partnership has the potential to solidify Mercari’s position vis-à-vis its main competitor Yahoo Auctions. Last month, the latter unveiled a collaboration with luxury resale marketplace Reclo.
Mercari operates in Japan and the U.S., generating the bulk of its revenue from the former market. During the three months to September, the company had revenue of $291 million.
