This story was updated on 3 Jan after Sahibinden came back online.

Sahibinden.com, the leading marketplace horizontal in Turkey, is back online after being out of action for several hours. The company announced the problem had been resolved, but it declined to say exactly what the problem was.

On its Instagram account, Sahibinden had earlier blamed a “technical problem” for the outage.

“We have a technical problem with our hosting provider … we are working on it. I hope it will be fixed soon,” a company source who wished to remain anonymous told the AIM Group at the time.

According to Webrazzi, Sahibinden.com went down late Tuesday night local time (2 Jan), noting that the domain name registration of Sahibinden.com had been temporarily suspended.

Sahibinden had earlier denied a report that its domain had been acquired by a U.S.-based company.

“Allegedly; (sic.) a U.S. company bought the vacant domain [Sahibinden.com] of the company that forgot to pay the domain fee until 2025,” media company 23 Derece posted on X.

Asked about this, the Sahibinden source responded: “Of course, it is not right.”

Sahibinden.com had 115 million visits in October 2023, according to SimilarWeb, making it by far the most popular marketplace in Turkey.
