Demand for new vehicles on Avito Auto increased by 53% year on year in 2023, according to the Russia-based auto vertical. During the year, the number of ads for new cars on the platform increased by 80%. The average new car price on Avito Auto rose by 21% during the year to RUB2,950,000 ($32,589).

In December 2023, the top five most popular marques on the site were (in descending order) Lada, Kia, Toyota, Hyundai and Renault.

In terms of models, domestic brand Lada ruled the roost with the top-three models: Granta, Niva Legend and Vesta. With an average asking price of RUB817,000 ($9,028), the Granta accounted for 15% of all inquiries for new cars. The top five list of models was rounded out by the China-made Haval Jolion and Omoda C5.

“At the end of 2023, we can see a stable increase in demand for new cars,” said Avito Auto managing director Kirill Votyakov. Avito Auto has seen interest in domestic brands almost double, while the popularity of Chinese manufacturers like Haval, Geely and Chery (Omoda) is aso on the rise.

At the same time, there has been a drop in demand for South Korean, European and Japanese cars. Economic sanctions imposed on Russia by Western governments in the wake of the former’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, the ruble’s falling exchange rate and declining domestic purchasing power amid rising inflation have been significant factors in this shift.
