Digital auto retailer Kavak has appointed Juan Cruz de la Rúa (above) as country manager for Mexico, according to his LinkedIn post.

Cruz de la Rúa had previously led the Mexico-based company in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for more than two years.

He has worked for Kavak for more than six years in total. Prior to that, he worked for OLX Group, rising to the position of business development lead — Cars LATAM. Cruz de la Rúa has a degree in industrial engineering from Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata in Argentina.

According to El Financiero, Mexico accounts for 60% of the company’s total transactions.

Cruz de la Rúa told El Financiero that he expects to double Kavak’s volume of business in Mexico, in addition to improving customer experience and adding products that go beyond the car transaction.

Kavak claims to have a 1% market share in Mexican used car sales segment and expects to double this in 2024, El Financiero said.

Mexico’s top automotive verticals by traffic include MercadoLibre México Vehículos, AutoCosmos and SoloAutos.mx.

However, Car Group, which owns SoloAutos.mx, has stated in a filing that it intends to shut down its operations in Mexico due to a “challenging” business environment.
